Passing Standards

According to Choice-Based Credit System, for courses where the evaluation is of 100 marks based on the semester-end examination only, the learner will be required to obtain 40% marks, i.e. 40/100 in the exams.

In case of courses where the performance of the learner is evaluated on the basis of Internal Assessment and Semester End Examination, the learner, to pass a course, will have to obtain a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate for each course where the course consists of Internal Assessment & Semester End Examination, i.e. the learner shall obtain a minimum of 40% marks (i.e. 10 out of 25) in the Internal Assessment and 40% marks in Semester End Examination (i.e. 30 out of 75) separately, to pass the course and a minimum of Grade E in each project, wherever applicable, to pass a particular semester.

A learner will be said to have passed the course if the learner passes the Internal Assessment & Semester End Examination together.

The passing criteria for F.Y. and S.Y. students under NEP 2020 and T.Y. students under the University of Mumbai vary in terms of internal and external assessments. While both systems require a minimum of 40% to pass, NEP 2020 stipulates that students must individually pass both Internal and Semester-End Examinations. The final result is determined by combining these scores. The table below highlights the key differences in passing requirements for better clarity.
